about acoustic energy
Acoustic Energy launched in 1987 with the AE1, a compact two-way studio monitor built around a metal-cone mid-bass driver that became a long-running reference for nearfield and small-room listening. The AE1 lineage carried forward through the AE2 and AE3, and the metal-driver design language still defines the company's house sound: stiff cones, controlled dispersion, and an emphasis on transient accuracy over voicing tricks. The current catalog spans entry standmounts and floorstanders through the AE100 and AE300 series, the step-up AE500 line, and the flagship Corinium and Reference ranges. The AE1 Classic reissue, marking the brand's 30th anniversary around 2017, revisited the original monitor concept with updated drivers and crossover work in a numbered limited run, drawing fresh What Hi-Fi coverage alongside the brand's long history of Stereophile reviews. In the US market Acoustic Energy sits as a credible second-tier British import, competing with the likes of Bowers & Wilkins, Monitor Audio, and Q Acoustics at the value-to-midrange tiers. North American distribution runs through Fidelity Imports, with retail placement at dealers including ListenUp. The combination of metal-driver engineering, a multi-decade review record, and an established import channel makes the line a dependable floor option for dealers building a British-monitor wall. Design and final assembly are based in Cirencester, in the Cotswolds, where the company has operated since 1994 after relocating from London.
