Dan D'Agostino Master Audio Systems is the second act of one of high-end audio's defining circuit designers. Dan D'Agostino founded Krell in 1980 and spent nearly three decades setting the template for muscular American solid-state amplification before departing in 2009; Master Audio Systems launched in 2010 as the platform for the next iteration of his thinking. The technical core is a proprietary super-rail topology that runs the output stage from a higher voltage than the driver stage, expanding linear headroom and lowering distortion into real-world reactive loudspeaker loads. Chassis are milled from solid copper rather than aluminum — copper conducts heat roughly 60 percent better, so the enclosure itself becomes the heatsink while adding structural mass that damps mechanical resonance. The exposed-copper casework with machined Breguet-style meters is engineering made legible.

Progression is the entry into the D'Agostino house sound, available in stereo and monoblock amplifiers with the matching Progression preamplifier. It carries the same super-rail core and copper-thermal construction as the dearer lines in a smaller, lower-priced package: reference-grade current delivery and tonal character. Above Progression sit Momentum (the HD monoblocks, M400 MxV monos, and matching pre/phono that established MAS critically) and, at the apex, Relentless — roughly 1,500-watt, ~485-pound monoblocks built to drive any loudspeaker without strain. In the cost-no-object amplification tier MAS competes with Boulder, Soulution, Gryphon, Constellation, and CH Precision. The differentiation is sonic and aesthetic: where Soulution and CH lean analytical and Boulder leans toward raw dynamic authority, D'Agostino designs are valued for iron-fisted current with a tonal warmth and dimensionality that traces back to the classic Krell KSA lineage — refined, modernized, and packaged in some of the most distinctive industrial design in the category.
