about leak
LEAK is a heritage British electronics brand, originally H. J. Leak & Co., founded by Harold Joseph Leak in London in 1934. It was one of the defining names of the early British hi-fi era. The brand was dormant for decades until its current owner, the International Audio Group (IAG) — also home to Wharfedale, Quad, and Mission — relaunched it in 2020 with its first new products in 40 years. The modern line is anchored by the Stereo 130 integrated amplifier, a class A/B design rated at 45 watts per channel into 8 ohms with a built-in DAC, paired with a matching CDT CD transport; both are offered in metal or walnut-veneer cabinets that nod to the brand's mid-century look. The later Stereo 230 extends the formula with more power and connectivity. The styling and front-panel treatment deliberately trade on the original LEAK identity. LEAK sits in the affordable-integrated conversation alongside Cambridge Audio, Marantz, Rega, and IAG stablemate Quad — buyers cross-shop on built-in DAC quality, power, and the appeal of a recognizable revived name. In the US it is distributed by AV Luxury Group and carried by retailers including Audio Advice. Press coverage includes reviews from Headfonia (Stereo 130 plus CDT) and Darko.Audio. As part of IAG, production is handled through the group's manufacturing operation.
