about m&k sound
M&K Sound was founded as Miller & Kreisel in Los Angeles in 1973 by Jonas Miller and Ken Kreisel. The company's first commission was a studio reference subwoofer and monitoring system, and in 1976 it shipped the David and Goliath system — among the first to pair a subwoofer with compact satellite speakers, the template that later became the home-theater standard. M&K built its reputation on sealed-cabinet, THX-certified monitors and subwoofers used as professional references. In the 1990s Dolby Laboratories used M&K THX-certified speakers in developing the Dolby Digital format, and the monitors were later used in Blu-ray mastering — a level of studio adoption few consumer speaker brands can claim. The current line continues the satellite-and-subwoofer architecture across models such as the S-150 THX monitor and the X-series subwoofers. M&K competes in the reference-monitor and high-end home-theater space against brands like PMC, Triad, and JBL Synthesis. After the original US company closed, the brand was relaunched under Danish ownership and now operates from Denmark. Fresh exclusive US distribution runs through Audio Collective Group in Austin, Texas, established in April 2026. Coverage spans Stereophile and Sound & Vision, including reviews of the S-150 THX and the X15+ Dominus subwoofer. The brand originated in Los Angeles and now operates under Danish ownership.
