about pmc
PMC, short for The Professional Monitor Company, was founded in 1991 by Peter Thomas, a BBC engineer, and Adrian Loader. The first product was the BB5 active studio monitor, and the company has carried a dual identity ever since: it builds both consumer hi-fi loudspeakers and professional studio monitors used in recording and mastering rooms. The engineering signature is the Advanced Transmission Line, a folded, damped internal line that loads the bass driver to extend low-frequency reach from a compact cabinet rather than relying on a simple ported box. The current hi-fi line runs from the compact prodigy and twenty5i bookshelf and floorstanding models up through the fact series and the flagship fenestria, spanning entry-level stands-mount speakers to six-figure reference towers. The pro side continues with active and passive studio monitors. In the US market PMC competes with transmission-line and sealed-box makers and trades on its studio-monitor heritage, appealing to buyers who want a speaker voiced for accuracy rather than warmth. US distribution runs through Playback Distribution in Indianapolis, with retail reach extended through Sweetwater. The press record is broad across mainstream audiophile titles: Stereophile, HiFi+, Hifi Pig, and StereoNET have all reviewed the line, making it a name serious US dealers recognize. Design and manufacturing are handled at PMC's facilities in England.
