about purist audio design
Purist Audio Design dates to 1986, when founder Jim Aud — a nuclear physicist by background — began experimenting with cable construction in his garage in Texas. The company's defining engineering idea is its fluid and gel dielectrics, which surround and shield the conductors to address the three problems Aud identified early in high-end audio: RF interference, EMI, and vibration. The first product, the Aqueous interconnect, used a fluid base around the conductor and earned the early nickname the "Texas Water Cable" from reviewers. The company builds a full cable system — interconnects, speaker cables, power cords, and digital cables — organized into tiers from entry models up to its statement references, with the fluid/gel dielectric technology distinguishing the upper range. The line is hand-assembled and continues to be developed by the founder rather than licensed out. In the US market Purist competes with other boutique American and import cable houses. Distribution is direct from the Clute, Texas operation, supported by a network of authorized US dealers. Press coverage is steady across the specialist cable-and-component outlets: Positive Feedback, Dagogo, Audio Bacon, and The Audio Beatnik, with additional interviews in Mono & Stereo. That coverage establishes Purist as a recognized boutique cable name, though it sits below the mainstream Stereophile and TAS A-list. Purist Audio Design cables are made in the USA.
