about electrocompaniet
Electrocompaniet was established in 1973 by Per Abrahamsen and Svein Erik Borja in Norway, built around the goal of a transistor amplifier that sounded better than the solid-state designs of the day. Abrahamsen's early work drew on amplifier research associated with Matti Otala's findings on transient distortion, and that low-distortion, low-feedback design philosophy has defined the brand for five decades. Production is consolidated at the company's facility in Tau, near Stavanger, with in-house fabrication, assembly, and burn-in testing. The current line covers power amplifiers, preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers, and source and streaming components. Recent and notable models include the AW 800 M monoblock, the AW400 and AW180 power amps, the Classic ECD 2 DAC, the ECI integrated series, and the Nordic Tone Model 1 system. In the US high-end market Electrocompaniet competes with established solid-state amplification brands and is now represented in over 50 countries. US and Canadian distribution runs through Red Leaf Audio, with authorized dealers including Audio Art Cable, Sound Approach, and ListenUp. The press record runs long at both Stereophile, which has reviewed the AW 800 M, Classic ECD 2, and AW400 monoblocks, and The Absolute Sound, which has covered the Nordic Tone Model 1 and the ECC-1/EC 4.7/AW180 system, making it a name serious US dealers recognize on sight. Manufacturing is in Tau, Norway.
