about reed
Reed was founded in 2007 by Vidmantas Triukas, a radio engineer who had worked in audio since the mid-1980s and holds patents in acoustics and ultrasonics. The company introduced its first tonearm after a year of development and built its reputation on adjustable-geometry pivoted arms that let users dial in azimuth, VTA, and effective length with unusual precision. The operation runs as Tonearms.lt out of the Kaunas region and remains a small shop of a handful of people. The line covers tonearms and turntables. Tonearm models include the 3P and the 5T; turntables include the Muse 1C and Muse 3C, with the brand's friction-drive and idler approaches setting it apart from belt-drive convention. The arms are designed to fit a wide range of decks, which has made Reed a frequent upgrade choice for owners of other turntables. Reed competes in the boutique analog import tier alongside makers like Schröder, Kuzma, and Thales, differentiating on adjustability and machining. It is distributed in the United States by Axiss Audio of Gardena, California. Press coverage is well established: Stereophile's Analog Corner has reviewed the line across multiple columns including #267 and #298, covering the Muse 1C/3C turntables and the 3P and 5T tonearms, and the brand has appeared in Stereophile's Recommended Components across 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2023, with additional coverage in HiFi News. Production is in the Kaunas region of Lithuania, where the arms and turntables are machined and assembled in-house.
