ESD Acoustic was founded in 2016 in Hangzhou, China, building ultra-high-end loudspeakers around field-coil drivers and large carbon-fiber horns rather than conventional permanent-magnet cones. The engineering premise is that an electromagnet-energized field coil gives more control over the driver's magnetic field than a fixed magnet, and that horn loading across the full range maximizes efficiency and dynamic range. The systems are large by design and treat the listening room itself as part of the architecture. The flagship is the Super Dragon, a multi-tower, multi-way field-coil horn system spanning bass horns through field-coil tweeters, paired with ESD's own electronics and crossover. The catalog extends down through smaller field-coil horn models and the driver units and horns that underpin them, all built and voiced in-house. ESD competes at the cost-no-object end of the horn world, in the conversation with makers like Cessaro, Avantgarde, and other field-coil specialists rather than mainstream floorstanders. In the US the brand reaches buyers through ESD Acoustic LLC on a largely direct and show-driven basis; there is no broad dealer network. It is recognizable to the show circuit, having appeared at the New York Audio Show with Stereophile coverage, plus features in 6moons and StereoNET. The brand exhibits at HIGH END in Vienna for 2026. All drivers, horns, cabinets, and electronics are manufactured in Hangzhou.
