about io design
IO Design is an Italian high-end loudspeaker maker led by Davide Dellacasa, presented as an alliance of designers drawing on roughly three decades of R&D across hi-tech and adjacent fields. The founding idea is structural: build a loudspeaker with no baffle and no enclosing box, so the drivers radiate as an open dipole without the cabinet coloration and back-wave compression that a sealed box imposes. The product line is the Naked series. The original Naked established the baffle-less open-frame concept, the Naked RS extended it as a reference-level statement, and the line reaches up to a Grand Reference model. All of them keep the same exposed-driver, no-box architecture rather than treating it as a one-off showpiece. The speakers debuted at successive High End Munich shows, drawing forum and press attention each time. IO Design sits in the boutique open-baffle and dipole conversation alongside makers like PureAudioProject and the planar and electrostatic camp, though its exposed-frame execution is its own thing. US distribution runs through Silversmith Audio Group, with Locrian Audio carrying the line at dealer level. Coverage has come from Mono and Stereo and pt.AUDIO, plus extended discussion on Audio Science Review and What's Best Forum. It is a reviewed import with confirmed US presence rather than a mainstream-press fixture. Design and production are based in Italy.
