about lab12
Lab12 was founded in 2012 in Athens by electronic engineer Stratos Vichos, who had spent two decades designing audio before launching the brand. The house style is hand-built, tube-based electronics — amplifiers, preamps, DACs, and phono stages — pitched at listeners who want valve sound and point-to-point construction without the prices the statement brands charge for it. The line spans the Mighty power amplifier (around $2,290) and the Integre4 integrated (around $4,900), alongside the Pre1 preamplifier, the Suono integrated, and a range of source and phono components. The amplifiers lean on classic tube topologies, and the brand's positioning is explicitly value-forward: a real tube experience at a second-tier-but-known price. Lab12 competes with the boutique-valve set — PrimaLuna, Rogue Audio, Line Magnetic, and Unison Research — where buyers weigh build quality, tube complement, and dealer support against price. In the US it is distributed by Fidelis Distribution, which gives it a defined dealer path rather than direct-only import. Press coverage is strong for a brand this size: a Stereophile feature in the Gramophone Dreams column covering the Mighty and Pre1, plus reviews in SoundStage! Hi-Fi, Audiophilia, 6moons, and Hifi Pig. Everything is built in Greece.
