about psi audio
PSI Audio is the hi-fi and pro-audio brand of Relec SA, based in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. The operation traces to 1977, when Alain Roux founded Roux Electroacoustique; the PSI Audio brand itself launched in 2004. The engineering focus is accuracy: active studio monitors built for neutral reproduction, and active bass-absorption products that address low-frequency room problems electronically rather than with bulk passive treatment. The current line splits into two families. The active monitors include models such as the A17M, A21M, and A25M, each handmade in Switzerland. The AVAA (Active Velocity Acoustic Absorber) range — including the AVAA C20 and the digital AVAA C214 — is an electronically active bass trap developed beginning in 2012 with support from two Swiss universities, targeting low-frequency standing waves in a far smaller footprint than passive traps require. PSI Audio is pro-audio first and audiophile-adjacent, competing with established studio-monitor brands while crossing into the hi-fi conversation through its room-treatment work. US distribution runs through Eleven Dimensions Media, with availability via B&H, Vintage King, and Sonic Circus. Press coverage spans both worlds: Sound on Sound reviewed the A17M and A21M monitors, and Stereophile covered the AVAA C214 bass trap — a notable crossover into the hi-fi press for a pro-audio house. All PSI Audio products are handmade in Switzerland.
