about scansonic hd
Scansonic HD is the value-tier loudspeaker brand of Danish parent Dantax A/S, the same group that owns Raidho Acoustics. The arrangement is the whole point: Scansonic HD models are designed by Michael Børresen — the designer behind Raidho — so the cheaper line inherits trickle-down ribbon-tweeter technology and voicing decisions from the far more expensive parent brand. The HD designation marks the era in which that ribbon-driver engineering was carried into the range. The line is built around the MB series of floorstanders and stand-mounts, with the MB1B, MB2.5, and larger MB8B among the models that have drawn review attention, alongside the M-series including the M-40. The signature element is the sealed ribbon tweeter mated to conventional mid-bass drivers, giving the speakers high-frequency behavior associated with much pricier designs. In the market, Scansonic HD competes in the established value-import tier — speakers that punch above their bracket by borrowing flagship technology, set against other mid-priced European floorstanders rather than against statement brands. US distribution runs through Underwood HiFi and USA Tube Audio, supporting dealers including Verdant Audio and Blink High End. The line has been reviewed in Positive Feedback, HiFi+, and SoundStage Access. Design and manufacturing are in Denmark under Dantax.
