Trinnov Audio was founded in 2003 in Paris by Arnaud Laborie, Olivier Lemaitre, and Sébastien Montoya, three signal-processing engineers who had been working on professional 3D audio and room-correction research at IRCAM, the French national acoustics research institute. The technical core of every Trinnov processor is the Optimizer — a measurement-and-correction system that maps the listening room with a 3D microphone array, characterizes the room's acoustic behavior, and applies a correction filter that addresses both the frequency response and the time-domain behavior simultaneously. Trinnov's research lineage means the correction algorithm operates on principles closer to academic acoustics than to the consumer DSP packages competitors typically rely on; the company's processors are used as reference tools in major recording studios, including Skywalker Sound and Abbey Road, and have become the de facto room-correction standard for the high-end home-cinema market.
What Definitive carries
The line Definitive specifies spans the home portfolio top to bottom. The Altitude32 is the 32-channel reference immersive AV processor — Auro-3D, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X support with the full Optimizer suite, the model that has dominated reference home-cinema installs since its launch. The Altitude16 brings the same core technology to a 20-channel chassis for smaller theaters. The Amethyst is the stereo preamplifier expression of the same engineering — the Optimizer in a two-channel context for serious audiophile stereo rooms. The Magnitude is the matching multi-channel amplifier built to drive a fully-corrected immersive system without re-introducing the time-domain artifacts the Optimizer just removed.
Where it sits in the room
In the high-end AV-processor conversation Trinnov is the dominant player at the reference end — competing with Storm Audio and the upper StormPlatforms, the JBL Synthesis SDP-75, and a small group of bespoke processor manufacturers. The differentiation is the academic-acoustics provenance of the Optimizer and the proven-in-major-studios pedigree of the correction system.
