about origin live
Origin Live is a British turntable and tonearm specialist based in Southampton, founded in 1986 by Mark Baker. It began as a cable company — its first product was a solid-core hi-fi cable — before broadening into equipment supports and adopting the Origin Live name, short for the goal of hearing the original source as played live. It is now a multi-generational family-run manufacturer with its own factory running CNC machines, and it exports up to 80% of its output to more than forty countries. The core line is turntables and the tonearms that mount on them, the area where the brand has its strongest reputation. The tonearm range and turntable range — models such as the Sovereign and Conqueror combinations and the Aurora — are the recurring review and dealer-floor subjects, and the company also makes amplifiers, loudspeakers, cables, and support stands around that analog center. Origin Live is well known in analog circles without being a top-tier household name on US dealer floors, competing in the British-turntable conversation alongside Rega, SME, and Michell. In the US it is carried by East End Hi-Fi (Coram, NY) as a premier dealer, with Walden High-End Audio, Analog Matters, and The Audio Legacy also stocking the line. Named-press coverage includes a strongly positive Stereophile review of the Resolution/Encounter turntable-and-tonearm combination. Products are designed and manufactured in Southampton, England.
